Synopsis: A major cheating attempt was uncovered during the Kerala PSC Secretariat Assistant Main Examination in the Kannur district. The incident occurred at the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School in Payyambalam.

A major cheating attempt was uncovered on Saturday, 27 September, during the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) Secretariat Assistant Main Examination in the Kannur district.

PSC Vigilance officers nabbed MP Muhammad Sahad (25), a native of Peralasserry, after he tried to escape despite being stopped.

The incident occurred at the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School in Payyambalam. Sahad had rigged his shirt collar with a tiny camera and used a discreet earpiece to receive answers.

Modus operandi of the cheating

During the exam, he allegedly tried to transmit the question paper visuals outside the hall and get answers relayed back through the headset. Police later seized the hidden camera, a pen drive, and the wireless device from him.

Acting on a tip-off, the PSC Vigilance team from Thiruvananthapuram reached the exam centre before the test began. They approached Sahad right as the morning session started.

During questioning, the candidate confessed that this was not his first attempt at such malpractice. He revealed he had used similar methods in the PSC Sub-Inspector recruitment test held last month.

Investigators are now trying to identify his outside accomplices, and further arrests are likely. According to PSC officials, Sahad will face disqualification from all the exams he has written so far, and his answer scripts will be closely re-examined.

Authorities are also considering imposing a ten-year ban on him from appearing in any future PSC tests. The vigilance team later handed him over to the Kannur Town Police for further legal action.
