The case

According to the parents, Aisha had first sought treatment at the Aryanad Government Hospital on the 18 February after experiencing breathing difficulties and swelling of the eyelids.

The following day, she was taken to a private hospital in Kattakada, identified as Mamal Hospital, where a pediatrician reportedly said the child was allergic to clothes.

On the 20 February, she was also examined at a private eye hospital as advised. Late on the 21 February, at around 11 pm, Aisha’s condition worsened at home, with increasing fatigue and severe breathing difficulty.

She was rushed to Mamal Hospital, but the pediatrician was on leave and another doctor attended to her.

The family alleges that after being given oxygen, the child was administered two injections in her hand, following which her heart rate increased and her condition deteriorated rapidly.

She was shifted in an ambulance, accompanied by two doctors and her grandmother Junaidah Biwi, to Neyyar Medicity, but was declared dead before arrival.

Siddique has rejected claims that the child was brought unconscious or bitten by anything, stating she had walked into the hospital and collapsed only after receiving the injections.

However, Dr. Arun Warrier of Mamal Hospital denied any medical error, telling that the child was brought in severe respiratory distress and was administered life-saving drugs, including adrenaline, as her pulse was weak.

He said she was referred to Neyyar Medicity after her condition worsened.

A postmortem will be conducted at Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital to ascertain the exact cause of death.
