Rima Kallingal files defamation suit against Suchitra

Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) member and co-founder Rima Kallingal on Tuesday, 3 September, took to her Instagram account to share that she has filed a defamation case against Tamil singer Suchitra demanding compensation, in response to the allegations made by the latter about the former in an interview with a YouTube channel.

Rima had also lodged a complaint with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by Kerala Police, which is dealing with complaints pertaining to issues within the film industry.

Suchitra apart from alleging that the Hema Committee report was a tool to sabotage the careers of young actors, claimed that Rima’s Kochi residence was used for a drug party.

Referring to the interview, Rima wrote: “In the 30-minute interview, she not only names and shames the survivor of the 2017 sexual assault, claiming the survivor ‘knew it was coming,’ but also alleges that CM Pinarayi, Mohanlal, and Mammootty conspired through the Hema Committee to sabotage the careers of actors like Fahadh. We all know why the Hema Committee was formed, and anyone suggesting otherwise should be questioned.”

Further clarifying that the allegations made against her regarding her “arrest” are baseless, Rima stated, “I have filed a complaint with the Special Investigation Team and sent a defamation notice.”

Kerala BJP chief demands action

Meanwhile, Kerala BJP chief K Surendran questioned the UDF for remaining silent on the issue.

He wrote on X, “Why is the serious allegation by a renowned female singer that Aashiq Abu and Reema Kallingal hosted drug parties in Kochi, where several girls were allegedly exploited, not causing an uproar in Kerala? Unproven claims have often been sensationalized by the media for weeks, yet this case is being ignored.”

Surendran further demanded the narcotics bureau and the Kerala police to investigate these claims.
