VHP activists arrested for threatening teachers during Christmas celebration in Palakkad

Three activists of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) have been remanded in custody following an incident where they allegedly threatened teachers for celebrating Christmas at a school in Palakkad.

The arrested individuals include Vishva Hindu Parishad District Secretary K Anil Kumar, District Joint Secretary V Sushasanan, and Panchayat Committee President K Velayudhan. 

The incident occurred on Friday, 20 December, at the Nallepully Government UP School in Chittur, Palakkad.

The incident 

According to reports, the three VHP activists confronted teachers and students during a Christmas celebration at the school. They reportedly questioned the attire of the teachers and students involved in the celebration and proceeded to use offensive language towards the educators in front of the children.

The incident prompted a formal complaint from the school authorities, which led to a police investigation. The Chittur Police arrested the accused and presented them before a local court. Following the proceedings, they were remanded in custody.

The accused have been charged under various sections of The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Sections 329(3), 296(b), 351(2), 132, and 196. These provisions address offences related to public order, threats, and disturbance of peace.

In a statement to South First, Chittur Police confirmed that the accused have been remanded, and the investigation is ongoing.
