Union government initiates preparation of DPRs for expansion of railway network in Kerala

The Union government has initiated the preparation of Detailed Project Reports for expanding the railway network in Kerala, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed Parliament on Wednesday, 30 July.

Responding to a question from an Opposition MP, Vaishnaw said the aim is to boost rail capacity across the state, adding that the introduction of new trains depends on track expansion.

He said DPRs have been taken up for several key third and fourth-line projects under PM Modis leadership.

The proposed routes include Shoranur–Ernakulam, Ernakulam–Kayamkulam, Kayamkulam–Thiruvananthapuram, Thiruvananthapuram–Nagercoil, Shoranur–Mangaluru, and Shoranur–Coimbatore.
