Synopsis: The BJP’s Keralam unit chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar has assigned senior leaders to prepare for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Anoop Antony is expected to play a central role in coordinating the BJP’s campaign preparations.
The BJP has initiated a major organisational restructuring in Keralam as part of its early preparations for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, dividing the state unit into northern and southern clusters and assigning key responsibilities to senior leaders.
In what is being described as the first such division of responsibilities within the Keralam BJP, state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has entrusted state general secretaries MT Ramesh and S Suresh with the overall charge of the two regions.
Ramesh will oversee the northern cluster, comprising Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad and Thrissur districts.
Suresh has been assigned responsibility for the southern cluster, covering Ernakulam, Kottayam, Idukki, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram.
The party has also redistributed responsibilities among other state general secretaries.
Shobha Surendran will coordinate national programmes and matters related to Delhi, while Anoop Antony has been appointed state Cell in-charge and given charge of the party’s Mission 2029 campaign and narrative-building activities.
Antony is expected to play a central role in coordinating the BJP’s campaign preparations for the next Lok Sabha elections.
The organisational revamp comes against the backdrop of the BJP’s improved performance in Keralam during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Actor-politician Suresh Gopi secured a historic victory for the party in Thrissur, while BJP candidates recorded notable performances in several other constituencies.
The party believes its growing electoral presence has demonstrated the possibility of expanding into areas traditionally dominated by the Congress-led United Democratic Front and the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front.
With the new regional structure and Mission 2029 campaign machinery in place, the BJP appears to be beginning its long-term preparations well ahead of the next parliamentary elections.
