In a heart-wrenching incident, two boys—Shinil (14) and Aromal (13), both from Venkavila—drowned in a swimming pool at a panchayat-run facility in Nedumangad on Saturday afternoon.
The pool, usually open only during scheduled morning and evening training sessions, was closed at the time. According to reports, seven children gained unauthorized access by scaling a wall at the back.
While bathing, the group entered the deeper section of the pool, where Shinil and Aromal drowned. Locals rushed to rescue the boys after others in the group raised an alarm, but the victims could not be revived at Nedumangad District Hospital.
Authorities confirmed that the boys were not enrolled as regular trainees at the facility.
