In a deeply troubling incident, three minor girls at the Sree Chitra Poor Home in Thiruvananthapuram attempted suicide on Sunday night by consuming an overdose of pills.
The girls, aged 16, 15, and 12, were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals. Two are currently receiving treatment at the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital, while the youngest is admitted to SAT Hospital. Authorities have confirmed that all three are in stable condition.
According to statements provided to the police, the children said they were driven to the extreme step due to relentless teasing and mockery by older inmates. They had reportedly expressed a strong desire to leave the institution and return home since their admission two weeks ago.
The Child Welfare Committee and local police have launched a detailed inquiry into the incident to determine the circumstances leading to the suicide attempt.
