Senior CPI(M) leader and former finance minister TM Thomas Isaac has threatened legal action against Chennai-based businessman Mohammed Shershad, who alleged his links with controversial UK-based industrialist Rajesh Krishna.
Isaac said the allegations were “completely baseless” and warned that unless Shershad withdrew his claims and issued an apology, both civil and criminal proceedings would be initiated.
“It would be good to investigate the background of the person making this allegation. There are three court judgments about this gentleman. He himself posted this so-called leaked letter on Facebook months ago. How could it be a leak now?” Isaac said, adding that he was not inclined to ignore the matter.
Isaac admitted he knew Rajesh Krishna, but maintained that he extended help to anyone approaching him in distress, such as facing foreclosure of property.
Meanwhile, State Minister M.B. Rajesh also rejected the controversy, pointing out that the letter in question has been circulating on WhatsApp for the past four years.
“Any letter thrown in the dustbin will resurface, especially with elections only months away. It is unfortunate that such things are being celebrated as news,” he told reporters in Kochi.
Rajesh refrained from answering whether he knew Rajesh Krishna, saying he had no intention of creating a headline.
“During the last assembly elections, my wife’s appointment was made into a big controversy. Did it not evaporate after the elections?” he remarked.
The leaked letter, addressed to the CPI(M) Politburo by Shershad, alleged that Rajesh Krishna acted as a benami for Isaac, M.B. Rajesh, and former Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan.
