‘Subiksham Thrikkakara’ breakfast scheme launched to feed over 7,000 schoolchildren in Kerala

Schoolchildren in the Thrikkakara Assembly constituency in the Ernakulam district of Kerala will now receive free breakfast as part of a new initiative launched on Monday, 4 August. The project, titled ‘Subiksham Thrikkakara’, was officially inaugurated by actor Kunchacko Boban.

A total of 7,081 students from 28 government and aided lower and upper primary schools in the constituency will benefit from the programme. The scheme will run for 165 school days and is expected to cost around ₹98 lakh.

Implemented by the PT Thomas Foundation in collaboration with the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), the initiative was spearheaded by Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas.

Speaking at the launch, Kunchacko Boban emphasised the need to improve the quality of food served to children in schools.

”Even jail inmates receive better food than what is often provided to our schoolchildren. That needs to change,” he said.
