State Kayakalp Awards announced, Thrissur and Irinjalakuda General Hospitals share top honours

Malappuram District Hospital, Nilambur, and Kozhikode Women and Children’s Hospital bagged the second prize with 92%.

Health Minister Veena George on Friday announced the State Kayakalp Awards for 2024-25, recognising government health institutions for excellence in cleanliness, waste management, and infection control.

In the district/general/women and children’s hospital category, Thrissur General Hospital and Irinjalakuda General Hospital secured the first prize with 93 percent marks, sharing ₹50 lakh.

Ernakulam General Hospital also claimed the top spot.

Malappuram District Hospital, Nilambur, and Kozhikode Women and Children’s Hospital bagged the second prize with 92%.

The environment-friendly awards went to Thrissur and Irinjalakuda General Hospitals in the district category, and Kasaragod and Thrikaripur Taluk Hospitals in the sub-district category.

At the taluk hospital level, Kasaragod and Thrikaripur hospitals won the first prize of ₹15 lakh with 92%. Punalur and Sultan Bathery hospitals shared the second prize.

Among community health centres, Kozhikode and Talakulathur bagged the top honour with 88%.

Commendation awards were also given to 16 district hospitals, 14 taluk hospitals, and 21 community health centres scoring above 70 percent.

From this year, the best urban primary health centres in districts with over 10 UPHCs will receive ₹2 lakh under Kayakalp, said the authorities.
