Spa employee held at knifepoint, gang-raped for refusing to pay “protection money” in Kerala

Health Minister Veena George said strict action would be taken against those responsible and assured that the government would provide all necessary support to the survivor.

Synopsis: On the day of the incident, the accused allegedly entered the spa and again demanded money. When the employee refused, they took her into a room, threatened her with a knife and raped her.

A spa employee was gang-raped in Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district after she refused to pay extortion money, police said. The incident happened on Sunday, 1 February.

According to Thiruvalla police, the main accused, Subin Alexander who is booked under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA), and his associates had been threatening the spa management for some time, demanding ₹50,000 as protection money.

The spa owner and staff had refused to pay.

On the day of the incident, the accused allegedly entered the spa and again demanded money. When the employee refused, they took her into a room, threatened her with a knife and raped her.

The accused also recorded a video of the assault on a mobile phone.

“There are six accused in the case. We have arrested four of them, including Subin. Two of the arrested persons have been remanded to judicial custody, while two others are in custody for questioning.” An officer from Thiruvalla PS told South First.

Police said efforts are being made to arrest the remaining accused.
