Synopsis: Anandhu Aji, a 26-year-old from Kottayam, was found dead in Thiruvananthapuram. A pre-scheduled Instagram post accused RSS activists of sexually abusing him during childhood. CPI(M) and DYFI demand a probe, while police confirm the post was drafted earlier. The RSS has not responded, and the case, registered as unnatural death, is under investigation, sparking political controversy.

The death of a 26-year-old man from Kottayam has sparked a major political row in Kerala after a scheduled Instagram post surfaced, in which the deceased accused activists of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of sexually abusing him during his childhood.

The deceased, identified as Anandhu Aji, a resident of Vanchimala in Elikulam grama panchayat, Kottayam, was found hanging in a room at Sangeetha Tourist Home near the Central Railway Station  in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, 9 October.

His body was cremated at his house premises on Friday night.

Instagram post scheduled before death surfaces

The controversy erupted hours after Anandhu’s death when a detailed statement appeared on his Instagram account.

According to the Thampanoor Police, which registered a case of unnatural death, the statement was pre-scheduled to be published after his death.

Investigators said the message was drafted on 8 September and later revised on 23 September, and again on 3 and 4 October.

In the post, which he described as his “dying declaration”, Anandhu alleged that he had been sexually abused by a person known to his family when he was between three and four years old and later by individuals at RSS-run camps.

He also made strong remarks against the RSS and urged other victims to speak up.

“I am having no ill-feelings towards anyone except for one person and one organisation. That organisation is RSS. I am experiencing a threat to my life caused by this organisation and that person,” Anandhu wrote.

He stated that he had been experiencing severe anxiety and panic attacks and was ending his life due to prolonged depressive episodes.

Allegations of abuse during childhood and at RSS camps

Anandhu named a person, referred to as “NM”, who lived near his old house, as the first perpetrator of sexual abuse.

According to him, this person was considered almost like a relative by his family.

The post then turned its focus on the RSS: “At the RSS camp also I was sexually abused. Never make any friends with anyone who is part of RSS. RSS is the one who walks with such poison. The real abusers,” the statement read.

“I don’t remember the name of the abuser. But in their ITC and OTC camps, I was sexually abused. Not only sexual abuse but also physical abuse has been committed. They abused many in their camps. At their camps, abuse is widespread. Many may not believe me because I have no proof,” he said.

Anandhu also claimed he was being socially isolated, alleging that many people he used to interact with had distanced themselves from him in recent months.

CPI(M), DYFI demand probe into allegations

Meanwhile, CPI(M) and its youth wing DYFI have demanded a comprehensive probe into the allegations raised in Anandhu’s statement.

DYFI state secretary VK Sanoj said Anandhu’s account exposed “the inhuman face of RSS” and called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

“Ananthu has written before ending his life that the RSS is putting forward ideas and actions that should be kept away from. We should be more vigilant so that our children do not reach such shakhas that teach hatred against others and make them inhumane, even if they are close relatives. The RSS criminals who killed Ananthu should be brought to justice,” Sanoj wrote.

Police trace last location from missing complaint

The Ponkunnam Police, under whose jurisdiction Elikulam falls, said they were aware of the developments but were “not jumping to conclusions”.

They confirmed that Anandhu had been undergoing treatment for mental health issues.

According to Thampanoor Police, Anandhu’s whereabouts were traced following a missing complaint filed at the Museum Police Station.

His mobile signal led the police to Sangeetha Tourist Home, where he was found hanging.

Investigators reiterated that the Instagram post was scheduled by Anandhu to go public after his death.

“The contents and incidents mentioned in the post are associated with his native place. The police there may have to consider it,” a Thampanoor Police official said.

Local representatives unaware of allegations

Local representatives in Anandhu’s native place said they were unaware of the allegations prior to the Instagram post.

Vanchimala ward member Suryamol said she learned about the statement only after the news broke.

Elikulam grama panchayat president Jimmy Jacob said the family was not socially active and that Anandhu had been struggling emotionally since his father’s death in a road accident two years ago.

“Some reports regarding his death are there, but we are unaware of such developments,” Jacob added.

RSS yet to respond; case under probe

The RSS has not yet issued a public statement responding to the allegations.

The case is currently registered as an unnatural death, and the police have indicated that further steps will depend on the contents of the statement, the circumstances of his death, and any corroborating evidence.

The CPI(M) has demanded that the allegations be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.

Anandhu’s death — and his powerful parting statement — has opened up a politically charged debate in Kerala, with questions being raised about RSS and its camps.

He is survived by his mother Juju and sister Anjitha.
