Seven individuals have been booked in Balussery in Kerala’s Kozhikode district for moral policing and assaulting a one-plus student and a male relative for speaking with each other in public.
The police have initiated an investigation against the group of seven individuals, among whom, two people have been identified as Ratheesh, the former president of the school’s PTA, and Vipinlal.
The disturbing incident reportedly occurred on the evening of Monday, 28 October, shortly after school hours, near the bus stop at Kokallur Higher Secondary School.
In the video of the incident, it can be seen that the 15-year-old student and the 21-year-old relative were verbally and physically assaulted for conversing with each other. According to reports, the group of people initially questioned them with abusive language and later pushed the girl to the ground.
It can be further seen in the video that the girl and the relative were trying to talk to the mob, to explain, however, the mob didn’t listen and started to hit the male relative.
Both the girl and her relative sustained injuries and required medical attention following the attack.
The student and her family promptly filed a complaint at the Balussery Police Station, where authorities took immediate action, and recorded detailed statements.
A report further stated that the accused had been booked under the charges of assault with a weapon, unlawful assembly, and disrespecting womanhood
