Malayalam actor Jayaram on Tuesday, 17 February, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the alleged Sabarimala gold theft case, saying that the truth must come out in the matter.
Jayaram reached the ED’s Kochi zonal office shortly after 11 a.m. and briefly interacted with the media before entering the premises.
“Sabarimala is a special feeling for Malayalis. No matter how many temples there are, Sabarimala is a holy place for every Indian. If there is any fraud in such a place, the truth should be brought to light 100 percent,” he said.
Stating that he would fully cooperate with the probe, the actor said he would disclose everything he had to say before ED officials. “Let those who are to be caught be caught. Will Ayyappa leave them alone?” he remarked, adding that he has been a devotee of Sabarimala Temple for the past 50 years.
Jayaram is being questioned as part of the ED’s examination of financial transactions linked to the alleged gold robbery.
The agency is reportedly seeking clarification on whether there were any financial dealings with prime accused Unnikrishnan Potty, including matters related to the delivery of Dwarapalaka panels to the actor’s residence in Chennai and the conduct of a puja there.
The actor had earlier told the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that he shared only a long-standing friendship with Potty and that there had been no financial transaction of even a single rupee between them.
Meanwhile, alleged middleman Kalpesh also appeared before the ED for questioning in the case.
