Collaboration between the two Malayalam cinema giants — Mammootty and Mohanlal.
A recent photograph shared by filmmaker Antony Perumbavoor, a close associate of Mohanlal, has stirred considerable buzz in Mollywood, shifting attention amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the Hema Committee report.
The intriguing photograph, posted on 23 August, features a smiling Antony Perumbavoor alongside Mohanlal and Mammootty, hinting at a potential collaboration between the two Malayalam cinema giants.
The accompanying captions, showcasing handshake emojis and references to their respective production banners — Mammootty Kampany and Ashirvad Cinemas — have fueled speculation about an imminent project involving both stars.
The report has already led to the resignations of two prominent figures: Actor Siddique stepped down as general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) in response to rape allegations made by actress Revathy Sampath, and director B Ranjith resigned from his position as Chairman of the Kerala State Film Academy following allegations from Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra.
While this photo has captured the imagination of fans, it has also drawn criticism from activists.
Some argue that this apparent reunion could be an attempt to divert attention from the ongoing discussions about the Hema Committee report, rather than a genuine collaborative effort.
Despite the excitement among their supporters, the silence of the superstars regarding the report has only intensified the scrutiny surrounding this newly sparked speculation.
The last film that saw the Mollywood Thespians together was Twenty:20 (2008), a film that featured all actors registered with AMMA.
In the Mohanlal-starring Narasimham (2000), directed by Shaji Kailas and produced by Ashirvad Cinemas, Mammootty played a cameo.
Mohanlal is set to make his directorial debut with Barros, a highly anticipated project from Ashirvad Cinemas. Alongside this, he will also be seen in L2- Empuran, the sequel to the blockbuster Lucifer, where he reprises his iconic role.
Meanwhile, Mammootty’s latest release, Turbo, directed by Vaisakh, has garnered attention, and he is gearing up for his next venture, Bazooka, helmed by Dino Dennis, the son of renowned screenwriter Kaloor Dennis.
