P&T Apartments in Kochi.
Residents of the P&T Apartment complex in Mundamveli, a suburb of Kochi in Kerala, are gearing up for a strong protest if the promised maintenance work does not begin next week. The repairs were to be based on recommendations from IIT Madras, which was appointed as project consultant after repeated delays.
The State Government had approved IIT Madras to identify structural and design flaws in the complex, built by the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) to house families displaced from the former P&T Colony.
An agreement between GCDA and IIT Madras was finally signed in June. This agreement was expected to lead to the issuance of a building stability certificate, essential for commencing the truss work sanctioned by the district administration and to be carried out by the Kochi Corporation. The truss work, a temporary measure to fix water leakage, remains stalled even as the monsoon rains continue.
