A suspected rabid dog has terrorised the Chakkarakkal area in Kannur, attacking 35 people across multiple locations. The attacks occurred within a five-kilometer radius, with victims bitten at bus stops, inside their homes, and even while working.
M.V. Anilkumar, the Chakkarakkal Panchayat representative, confirmed to South First, that 26 of the victims are receiving treatment at Kannur General Hospital, while two are being treated at MIMS Kannur, three at Anjarakandy Medical College Hospital, and four at Pariyaram Medical College.

The first reported victim, a woman named Sajini, was attacked in her kitchen. The dog then moved through neighborhoods including Erivelikavu, Chappa, Thalavil, Iruveri, Kulam Bazar, Punnacherry, and RV Metta, leaving a trail of injuries.
Among the injured were children playing outside, a school bus driver preparing for his morning trip, and a boy attacked inside his home. One victim’s father managed to chase the dog away using a cane.
The dog also bit a domestic goat before it was eventually found dead after hours of causing widespread fear and chaos.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, urging residents to remain vigilant.
