Attack

Synopsis: The perpetrator allegedly attacked the 16 year old with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds. The victim suffered injuries to her face, neck and other parts of her body while attempting to fend off the assault.

A 16-year-old Plus-Two student sustained serious injuries after she was allegedly stabbed by a 21-year-old man near her residence at Kanyakulangara in Vembayam, Thiruvananthapuram, on the afternoon of Tuesday, 16 June.

Police suspect the attack may have been triggered by the girl’s rejection of the accused’s advances.

The accused, identified as Sahad Mohammad, a native of Panavoor, remains absconding, and an intensive search has been launched by the Vattapara police.

According to investigators, the incident occurred around 12.30 p.m. when the girl, a student of Neduveli Higher Secondary School and a resident of Kaitharakonam, stepped out of her house.

While local accounts said she had gone out to purchase a book, police said she was on her way back home through a concrete road leading to her residence.

The attack

Officials believe Sahad had been waiting for the teenager in a car near an isolated stretch close to her house.

As she approached the area, he allegedly attacked her with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds. The victim suffered injuries to her face, neck and other parts of her body while attempting to fend off the assault.

Eyewitnesses and local residents said one of the wounds on the back of her neck was particularly deep, raising concerns about the severity of the attack.

Hearing her cries for help, residents from nearby houses rushed to the scene.

By the time they arrived, the attacker had fled in his car. During his escape, the vehicle reportedly collided with another two-wheeler, leaving a woman injured.

The injured student was immediately taken to the Government Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, where she underwent emergency surgery. Hospital sources said her condition is currently stable.

The victim is the eldest daughter of a lottery vendor and a tailor.

A premeditated attack

Police suspect the attack was premeditated, noting that the accused appeared familiar with the route to the girl’s house and had allegedly positioned himself there in advance.

Investigators are also examining whether anyone assisted him before or after the crime.

Police sources revealed that Sahad had lived in a rented house in the Kanyakulangara area approximately seven months ago, which may explain his familiarity with the locality.

A case has been registered by the Vattapara police, who are probing all aspects of the incident, including the exact motive behind the attack.

While investigators suspect the assault was linked to the girl’s rejection of Sahad’s alleged romantic advances, they are continuing to gather evidence and record witness statements.

The search for the accused is ongoing.
