In response to the rising incidents of job fraud and visa-related cheating targeting aspiring Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs), the state government has sanctioned ₹1 crore to further strengthen the ongoing Pre-Departure Orientation Programme (PDOP) under NORKA Roots.
The PDOP, aimed at job seekers and others travelling abroad, equips NRKs with crucial awareness about legal migration processes, cultural practices, and labour laws in their destination countries.
The programme also sensitizes travellers against illegal recruitment and fraudulent visa rackets.
According to official sources, the administrative sanction was cleared following a proposal from the Chief Executive Officer of NORKA Roots.
The scheme will cover awareness campaigns in Kerala’s railway stations, bus terminals, and major malls through digital screens, apart from advertisements in print and conventional media.
Additionally, the Future Ready Migrant Programme — an extension of the PDOP — will conduct workshops in collaboration with partner organisations.
Learning materials, manuals, brochures, and certificates will also be prepared and distributed as part of the initiative.
With increasing cases of exploitation of overseas job aspirants, officials said the strengthened PDOP would play a critical role in safeguarding the interests of Kerala’s migrant workforce.
