‘Mission Punarjani’ launched to make Perumbavoor drug-free
The Ernakulam Rural police have launched Mission Punarjani, a focused campaign aimed at eradicating drug abuse in Perumbavoor, a region with a high migrant population.
The initiative was officially inaugurated at Allapra on Wednesday by Kunnathunadu MLA P.V. Sreenijin, who lauded the police for taking proactive steps against the growing drug menace.
District Police Chief M. Hemalatha presided over the function, while Kochi Sub Collector K. Meera delivered the keynote address.
The project brings together migrant workers, employers, government departments, and social activists to build a united front against drug circulation.
Key components include awareness campaigns, psychological and medical support for addicts, lifestyle counselling, inter-state inspections, promotion of sports, and efforts to ensure safe and hygienic living spaces for workers.
Authorities aim to curb drug peddling among migrant communities and encourage healthier alternatives through sustained engagement and multi-agency coordination.
