Health and Women and Child Development Minister Veena George has stressed the importance of recognizing each child’s unique talents.

“Every child is different, and their abilities must be nurtured,” she said while presenting the Ujjwalabalyam Awards to 54 children for their excellence in various fields.

The minister said the state aims to eliminate child begging and child labour through focused programmes.

Efforts are also underway to keep children in a family environment, with around 500 children reunited with families or placed in foster care within a year.

She highlighted the Supreme Court and UNICEF’s praise for Kerala’s child protection schemes like Kaval and Kaval Plus.

The minister also inaugurated the rebranded Child Helpline (1098) and released a UNICEF-supported video showcasing Kerala’s child protection efforts.

Tributes were paid to the child who recently died in Kollam. The event was attended by officials and dignitaries from various departments.
