Kottayam woman physically assaulted during black magic ritual: Three arrested including husband

Synopsis: On 2 November, a local pujari, Shivan from Thiruvalla, was brought home to perform rituals that turned violent. The woman was allegedly forced to drink alcohol, smoke beedis, eat ash, and suffered burn injuries over nearly ten hours.

A woman from Kottayam was allegedly subjected to hours of brutal physical and mental torture by her husband and in-laws during a black magic ritual.

Police have arrested three men, Akhildas (26), his father Das (55), and Sivadas (54) in connection with the case.

According to police, Akhildas married the victim being in a romantic relationship with her, but soon after, his mother accused the woman of being possessed.

On 2 November, a local pujari, Shivan from Thiruvalla, was brought home to perform rituals that turned violent. The woman was allegedly forced to drink alcohol, smoke beedis, eat ash, and suffered burn injuries over nearly ten hours.

The issue came to light after the woman’s father filed a complaint after learning of the incident, leading to the arrests. Sivadas, who had gone into hiding, was caught from Thiruvalla.

The woman’s mother-in-law however, remains absconding.

The accused were remanded by a Kottayam court after being produced by a police team led by Manarcad SHO Anil George.
