Kochi Metro and Water Metro extend services to manage New Year rush

The last Metro trains will depart from Aluva and Tripunithura at 1.30 am, while the final service from Edappally will leave at 2 am.

Synopsis: Kochi’s Metro and Water Metro will operate extended services during the New Year period, with services on New Year’s Eve operating every 20 minutes until the early hours of 1 January. Water Metro services will follow a revised schedule on 31 December, with late-night operations resuming after midnight on select routes.

Kochi’s Metro and Water Metro will extend operations over the New Year period to handle an expected surge in passenger traffic, officials said.

Metro services on the Edappally–Aluva and Edappally–Tripunithura corridors will be extended until 11 pm from 26 December to 3 January. On New Year’s Eve, 31 December, trains will run at 20-minute intervals late into the night, continuing until 1.30 am.

According to the schedule, the last Metro trains will depart from Aluva and Tripunithura at 1.30 am, while the final service from Edappally will leave at 2 am.

Water Metro operations will follow a modified schedule on 31 December. Services on the High Court–Mattancherry, High Court–Vypin and High Court–Fort Kochi routes will run only until 7 pm that day.

On New Year’s night, however, Water Metro services on the High Court–Mattancherry and High Court–Vypin routes will resume from midnight and continue until 4 am on 1 January. Services on all other Water Metro routes will operate as per the regular timetable.
