KGMCTA demands urgent action on medical college teachers’ issues

The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers Association (KGMCTA) has urged the state government to urgently address the long-standing issues faced by teachers in government medical colleges. The demands were raised during the association’s Central Executive Committee meeting held in Thrissur, with representatives from 14 medical colleges participating.

The meeting expressed solidarity with Dr. Harris of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, stating that his concerns reflect the broader challenges in the sector. Teachers warned that quality healthcare can only be delivered within the limitations of existing infrastructure if the government fails to act.

Key demands include settling pending salary arrears since 2016, addressing reduced pay for entry-level teachers, expediting the 2025 general transfer process, and creating new posts in understaffed colleges. KGMCTA also opposed the overburdening of faculty with administrative duties. The meeting was chaired by State President Dr. Rosnara Begum, with office-bearers and senior members in attendance.
