Former Kerala Finance Minister and noted economist Prof TM Thomas Isaac spoke about ways and means to create a new international economic order fit for the 21st century, at a global conference held in New York.

He spoke at the multilateral summit organised by Progressive International, a global organisation with thinkers, authors and politicians like Noam Chomsky, Jeremy Corbyn, and Prashant Bhushan as part of its advisory council.

Isaac, who is an important voice on economic thought and discourse in India, was part of an ensemble line-up of speakers that included UN ambassadors, policymakers, and economists. Isaac was a two-time finance minister of Kerala.

About the event

The event was held in Manhattan on 7 and 8 December and was seen as the harbinger of a much larger global congress to be held by the same organisation in Cuba on 25 January, 2023.

At the invitation of the Cuban government, the Progressive International will hold a global congress on the New International Economic Order.

The Congress will be a further step towards establishing a platform for the people and nations of the Global South to deliberate and advance proposals for a 21st century New International Economic Order.
