Five days after a 24-year-old named Kiran alias Chikku went missing from the Azhimala beach near Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, where he had gone to meet his girlfriend, his body is believed to have been found on the Colachel beach in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu.

The body was found at Colachel, 40 km from Azhimala, during the early hours of Wednesday, 13 July.

Kiran’s father P Madhu, who reached the spot in the morning along with the investigation team of the Thiruvananthapuram City Police, identified the mangled body as that of his son Kiran alias Chikku.

Madhu ruled out the possibility of suicide and alleged that Kiran was murdered and his body dumped into the sea by relatives of the girl, whom the youth had met on Facebook.

Meanwhile, the Kanyakumari police said a DNA test would be conducted on the body to further ascertain its identity, and only then would the process of handing the body to the relatives begin.

Kiran’s friends Melwin and Ananthu accompanied him to the beach on Saturday.

The police started a massive search for him around noon after the duo friends told them that he was beaten up and kidnapped by relatives of his girlfriend.

Melwin and Anathu said they were forced to return from the beach by the girl’s elder brother, brother-in-law, and uncle.

“We were returning after meeting the girl near her house at Azhimala when three of her relatives, including the brother, arrived suddenly in vehicles and blocked our movement,” Melwin told South First.

“After beating Kiran severely, they forcibly took him away on a two-wheeler. We were also beaten, and then pushed into a car,” he added.

“Then they dropped us at a faraway place after verbally abusing us. They told us Kiran had managed to escape,” said Melwin.

Son of Madhu and Mini of Mekkumkara near Vizhinjam in Thiruvananthapuram, Kiran was working as a mechanic in a local motor workshop.

Police chase clues

After recovering his slippers from the rocks on the Azhimala shore, the police probed whether he fell into the sea accidentally or someone pushed him into the sea with malicious intent.

CCTV footage sourced by the cops showed Kiran running along a narrow path towards the sea.

However, it was not clear from the visuals whether he was being chased.

Meanwhile, the relatives of the girl who reportedly assaulted Kiran are said to be absconding.
