A special loan scheme with a four percent interest rate will soon be launched in Kerala to support women entrepreneurs under the state’s women-friendly tourism initiative.
The project will be jointly implemented by the Responsible Tourism Mission and the Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation (KSWDC).
Announced at a high-level meeting attended by Tourism Minister PA Mohammad Riyaz and Women and Child Welfare Minister Veena George, the scheme aims to provide financial assistance to women registered under the women-friendly tourism initiative.
Around 18,000 women have already registered, expressing interest in launching ventures across 24 sectors.
The Tourism Department has earmarked ₹4 crore for the initiative. Minister Veena George said this was a first-of-its-kind move in the country to promote women-led tourism enterprises.
KSWDC will expedite loan procedures, and the model is expected to serve as a benchmark for women’s entrepreneurship in tourism. RT Mission CEO K Rupesh Kumar and KSWDC MD Bindu V.C. will coordinate the project.
