The Kerala Police have registered a suo motu case against five Bajrang Dal members for allegedly threatening a tribal youth, Aneesh, who volunteered with a Pentecostal mission group in Kuppadi in the Wayanad district.
The incident, which occurred in April, came to light again after visuals resurfaced online. Aneesh, from the Kalluvayal tribal settlement, was allegedly abused and warned that his legs would be chopped off if he continued taking tribal children to the mission’s study centre or teaching Bible-based content.
The threats reportedly came while he was returning from the Cherukad settlement. Though the matter was settled by the Sulthan Bathery police earlier, a case was officially registered only on Saturday evening after the videos gained traction.
Sub Inspector Sobin said that some of the accused have been identified, and the investigation is underway. Aneesh’s statement is yet to be recorded.
Charges include Sections 192 (provocation to cause riot), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (threat of harm or destruction) under the BNS.
