Kerala Police register sexual assault case against Malayalam film director Chidambaram

Synopsis: The Kerala Police registered a case of sexual assault against director Chidambaram following a complaint by a young woman. Police said Chidambaram will be questioned as part of the probe, and further action, including arrest, will be taken if deemed necessary.

The Kerala Police registered a case of sexual assault against director Chidambaram (Chidambaram S Poduval), known for helming the Malayalam hit film Manjummal Boys, following a complaint by a young woman, sources said on Monday, 2 March.

The Ernakulam South Police said the case was filed based on the survivor’s statement that Chidambaram allegedly entered a flat in Elamkulam in 2022 and behaved with sexual intent.

The police have registered the case under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Investigation underway

According to officials, a detailed investigation is underway.

Police said Chidambaram will be questioned as part of the probe, and further action, including arrest, will be taken if deemed necessary.

The complainant, identified as an actress, approached the police recently regarding an alleged incident that occurred in 2022.

Further proceedings will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation, police added.
