The Kerala Police have launched an investigation into a series of alleged multi-crore bank fraud cases involving several individuals, primarily nurses from the state who were working in Kuwait.
The accused are said to have defaulted on loans amounting to crores of rupees, leading to complaints from the concerned bank.
According to reports, the defaulters allegedly used their financial positions to fraudulently secure loans. The police have registered cases in multiple locations across Kerala, including Kalamassery, Njarackal, Varapuzha, Kalady, Muvattupuzha, Oonnukal, Kodanad, and Kumarakom.
The accused face serious charges, including cheating and criminal breach of trust.
Although the alleged fraud occurred in Kuwait, the bank, seeking to hold the defaulters accountable, consulted legal experts to explore the possibility of prosecuting the accused in India. “There are provisions under Indian law to take action against the defaulters, even though the fraud occurred in Kuwait,” said a police officer familiar with the case.
The police have already begun recording statements from some of the accused and are expecting additional details from the bank to further assist in the investigation.
The bank’s cooperation is expected to shed more light on the scope of the fraud and the exact methods used by the accused to misappropriate funds.
Murukan C, the Station House Officer of Muvattupuzha Police Station, confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. “A couple of cases have been registered, and the investigation is in progress. At present, more details can’t be divulged,” he told South First.
As the investigation continues, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking steps to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
