Leader of Opposition in Kerala Assembly VD Satheesan wrote to the State Election Commissioner, voicing concern over the current proposal to allocate up to 1,300 voters per booth in panchayat areas and 1,600 in municipal areas for the upcoming local body elections.
In his letter, Satheesan termed the plan impractical, warning that larger crowds at polling booths would overburden officials and lead to long queues, potentially discouraging many from casting their votes.
To ensure smooth polling and maximum voter participation, the Opposition leader demanded that the number of voters per booth be uniformly restricted to 1,100 across both rural and urban areas. He stressed that limiting voters per station would improve efficiency, ease election management, and create a more voter-friendly atmosphere on polling day.
The State Election Commission is yet to respond to the suggestion.
