A government doctor at the District Government Hospital in Kerala’s Aluva has been booked for alleged medical negligence after a six-month-old boy was reportedly prescribed an excessive dose of liquid paracetamol following immunisation.
The Aluva East Police registered a case against Dr Habna Rubshi under Section 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with causing hurt through a rash or negligent act endangering human life.
According to the FIR, the infant, Muhammed Duvan, developed complications after allegedly receiving the excessive dose. He was admitted to a private hospital in Kochi, where he underwent treatment for five days.
The child’s parents said they spent around ₹80,000 on the treatment. They approached the police with a complaint after the infant recovered and was discharged from the hospital.
Speaking to South First, the child’s father, Noorudheen, said the incident occurred on 29 April.
“The negligence happened when the medicine was filled into the filler. The dose of liquid paracetamol administered was higher and the doctor failed to pay attention to the dosage. My baby is fine now, but the days that followed were terrifying after he developed complications,” he said.
Police said the investigation is under way and that the doctor’s statement will be recorded as part of the probe.
