The Hosdurg Fast Track Special Court sentenced a 47-year-old man to 77 years in prison for sexually assaulting his niece, first when she was in Class VI and later in Class X.
He was also fined ₹2.09 lakh, with an additional two years and seven months if the fine is not paid.
The abuse came to light in September 2023 when the 14-year-old survivor confided in a family friend, prompting Childline and the Adhur police to file charges under the POCSO Act and the Indian Penal Code.
During the trial, the survivor’s mother and maternal aunt turned hostile, but the court accepted the girl’s testimony as credible.
The man was convicted on six counts of sexual assault and one count of criminal intimidation. He received sentences ranging from two years for sexual harassment and showing pornography to 20 years for aggravated and repeated penetrative sexual assault by a relative.
All sentences will run concurrently, resulting in a 20-year prison term. The investigation was conducted by Adhur Inspector Anil Kumar A.
