Kerala Cabinet okays promotion of controversial IPS officer Ajithkumar as DGP

Ajithkumar is likely to be accommodated in the vacancy that would be created by the retirement of the current state police chief, Shaik Darvesh Saheb on 1 July 2025.

The Kerala Cabinet has approved a recommendation to promote controversial IPS officer MR Ajithkumar as DGP.

With the Cabinet approving the recommendation of the chief secretary-headed screening committee, Ajithkumar is likely to be accommodated in the vacancy that would be created by the retirement of the current state police chief, Shaik Darvesh Saheb on 1 July 2025.

Besides Ajithkumar, the Cabinet has also approved the promotion of S Suresh as DGP. Both officers belong to the 1995 IPS batch.

The screening committee, comprising the chief secretary, DGP, home secretary and vigilance director recommended the promotions. The Cabinet approved the recommendation despite Ajithkumar facing separate investigations into the Thrissur pooram fiasco, clandestine meetings with RSS leaders, and amassing assets disproportionate to his income.

Besides Ajithkumar and Suresh, the Cabinet also approved the promotions of 10 other IPS officers. They are:

Invest Kerala Global Summit

The government has in principle approved holding Invest Kerala Global Summit-2025 in Kochi on 21 and 22 February. A high-power committee headed by chief secretary will coordinate to timely implement major investment proposals of various departments.

The state Cabinet has also approved an amendment to the Kerala Minor Concession Act to address issues faced by the laterite building stone sector. The amendment will slash the financial guarantee to ₹50,000 from the current ₹2 lakh, besides allowing the remittance of royalty in two installments.
