Health Minister Veena George on Tuesday announced the first-ever State AYUSH Kayakalp Awards, instituted to promote cleanliness, effective waste management, and infection control in government AYUSH health institutions across Kerala.
The initiative aims to improve the overall quality and service standards of Ayurvedic and Homeopathic hospitals and wellness centres in the state.
Under the scheme, Ernakulam District Ayurveda Hospital secured the top spot in the ISM district hospital category with 95.91% marks, while Thrissur District Homeopathy Hospital topped the homeopathy category with 99.17% marks.
Sub-district hospital honours went to Ottappalam Government Ayurveda Hospital (98.97%) and Kurichi Government Homeopathy Hospital in Kottayam (92.86%).
Cash prizes ranging from ₹10 lakh for district-level winners to ₹1 lakh for sub-district hospitals and ₹1 lakh for health and wellness centres were awarded.
Additionally, 14 ISM and 14 Homeopathy AYUSH health and wellness centres won first prizes at the district level, while 42 institutions each in both departments received commendation awards.
The awards, the minister said, were finalised after rigorous evaluations by trained assessors and committees, covering criteria such as hospital management, hygiene, infection control, and waste disposal.
The government has accredited 250 AYUSH institutions with NABH during its tenure.
