Scott Griffen, the Executive Director of IPI, expressed concern over the sweeping powers granted to the investigator in this case. In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister on Friday, 22 August, he said it could create a precedent when journalists report stories the government finds uncomfortable.

The IPI said it “stands in solidarity with our colleagues in Kerala as we continue to follow this matter closely”.

The government has appointed B Ashok, Principal Secretary of the Agriculture Department, to probe the leak of information regarding the World Bank-funded project.
