A chilling discovery has shocked the quiet high ranges of Nedumkandam, Idukki, where partially decomposed human remains were unearthed from the courtyard of a modest house in Pachadi.
The remains are suspected to be those of Marykutty (70) and her elder son Reji (48), who had been missing since earlier this month.
Acting on a complaint filed by Marykutty’s daughter Sini, police reached the isolated residence and conducted a detailed search. What they uncovered has left the community deeply disturbed—body parts buried barely a foot beneath the soil near a dog kennel.
Locals had grown suspicious after the family’s younger son, Saji, gave inconsistent explanations about the whereabouts of his mother and brother. Their concerns intensified when both Marykutty and Reji failed to return or make contact for weeks.
The discovery of a severed leg during an inspection of freshly disturbed soil confirmed fears of foul play. Police teams from Peerumedu and surrounding areas have joined the investigation, which has now widened into a possible double murder case.
Forensic experts are expected to examine the remains to establish identities and the cause of death.
Meanwhile, Saji has gone missing, with his phone switched off, prompting a manhunt.
Investigators are also probing a disturbing pattern—Marykutty’s husband reportedly disappeared years ago under similar circumstances.
