In a recent interaction with the media, actor Prithviraj Sukumaran expressed that AMMA made some mistakes during the early stages of the proceedings and emphasised the need for a thorough and detailed investigation into the alleged instances of harassment and sexual assault incidents.
Prithviraj further stated that those accused should face the investigation and, as a gesture of modesty, should step down from their positions during the inquiry.
However, he was against the presence of power groups within the Malayalam film industry, asserting that such entities should not exist.
The actor was speaking after the chain of sexual misconduct allegations against Malayalam actors following the release of the Hema Committee report.
Regarding the Hema Committee report, Prithviraj said that the decision regarding the release of names mentioned in the report should be made by the government.
He also called for the establishment of uniform guidelines on film sets to ensure a safer working environment.
Prithviraj praised the Hema Committee report for opening a new path in the Indian film industry, highlighting its potential to bring about significant changes.
The Hema Committee report was released by the Kerala government on 19 August exposing the harassment faced by female actors in the Malayalam film industry.
The committee was formed in 2017 after the alleged abduction and subsequent harassment of a female actor allegedly orchestrated by actor Dileep.
Following allegations by female actors, actor Siddique resigned as the general secretary of AMMA and filmmaker Ranjith as the chairman of Kerala Chalachitra Academy.
