The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an extreme heavy rainfall warning for isolated places in Idukki, Pathanamthitta, and Kottayam districts on Thursday, 6 August, as a cyclonic circulation persists over the southeast Bay of Bengal.
The weather system is expected to influence rainfall activity over Kerala, with light to moderate rain likely across the state from August 6 to 10.
The IMD has also forecast very heavy rainfall at isolated places on August 6 and 7, while heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations from August 6 to 8.
Meanwhile, strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph at times, are likely along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast between August 6 and 8.
Sea conditions are expected to remain rough during this period, and fishermen and coastal residents have been advised to exercise caution.

The threat of a swell surge, locally known as Kallakkadal, is also there. This prompted a coastal alert in parts of Kerala, with authorities warning of possible sea erosion and rough sea conditions along stretches of the Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Alappuzha coasts on Thursday.

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued an alert, warning that waves between 1.1 and 1.4 metres high are likely to affect the coastline from Kappil to Pozhiyur in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappatt to Edava in Kollam, and Chellanam to Azhikkal Jetty in Alappuzha until 11.30 pm on August 6.
Fishermen and people living along the coast have been advised to remain vigilant as the high waves could trigger sea erosion.
Authorities have urged the public to stay away from vulnerable coastal areas and strictly follow official safety instructions.
The advisory also warns against launching small fishing boats and recreational vessels during the alert period.
Fishing vessels have been advised not to venture into or return to shore while the swell surge conditions persist, as both launching and landing could be hazardous due to strong waves.
A swell surge, or Kallakkadal as it is commonly known among Kerala fishermen, is a sudden rise in sea waves that occurs without any significant change in local winds or other visible signs along the coast, making it difficult to anticipate.
As of 5 August, a total of 26 persons lost their lives in rain-related incidents.
