In Ernakulam, grama panchayats now have 1,467 wards
The Ernakulam district in Kerala will now have 2,220 wards, 175 more than before, following the state-wide delimitation exercise ahead of the Local Self-Government (LSG) polls later this year.
The revised boundaries, finalised by the State Delimitation Commission on 12 August after addressing public objections in July, are part of an exercise that has increased the total number of wards across Kerala from 21,900 to 23,612.
The process, carried out in three phases covering grama panchayats, municipalities, corporations, block panchayats and district panchayats, was overseen by the State Election Commissioner with the support of senior officials from key government departments.
In Ernakulam, grama panchayats now have 1,467 wards, block panchayats have 202, the district panchayat has 28, municipalities have 447, and corporations have 76. The government had issued the order for the delimitation process in 2024.
