Synopsis: Criticising the BJP-led Central Government, Pinarayi alleged that central investigative agencies, particularly the ED, were being used against opposition parties. He said the Congress leadership responds strongly only when its own leaders are targeted by central agencies.
Kerala’s Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday, 29 May, said that Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials did not question him during the recent raid conducted at his residence and clarified that reports regarding multiple bank accounts held by his daughter, T Veena, were inaccurate.
Speaking to reporters after the Governor’s policy address, Pinarayi said he was present during the ED inspection but was not questioned by officials.
“The ED did not ask me anything. I was only there,” he said when asked whether investigators had sought any clarification from him.
Responding to reports that Veena Vijayan’s bank accounts had been frozen, Pinarayi said the media had carried incorrect information regarding the number of accounts.
“As some people are saying, Veena does not have a large number of bank accounts. One of her bank accounts has been frozen. That is true,” he said.
The Opposition Leader also commented on the incident in Thiruvananthapuram in which the vehicle of ED officials was allegedly attacked.
He said those present at the scene had attempted to resolve the situation peacefully and that the general approach of those involved was evident from what had happened.

Referring to the case against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Pinarayi claimed that the Congress had earlier demanded action against him and later celebrated when a case was registered.
He said this was the reason why leaders such as M. K. Stalin and Kejriwal criticised the Congress position when the ED took action in Kerala.
Calling for greater opposition unity against what he termed BJP’s political use of central agencies, Pinarayi said the Congress had adopted a different approach.
He added that questions regarding the Congress response to the ED action should be directed to Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan.
