The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has alleged that T. Veena, daughter of former Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, was involved in financial transactions through hawala channels, including an alleged transfer of ₹85 lakh to Dubai.

The agency has also claimed that she handled funds far exceeding the income reflected in her known transactions.

According to the ED, handwritten accounts recovered during searches conducted on May 27 at premises linked to Veena and promoters of Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) contained details of transactions exceeding ₹20 crore.

The notes allegedly recorded the names of individuals, amounts handled and expended, as well as details of money transferred abroad.

The agency said the records indicate that Veena transferred 3.49 lakh UAE dirhams, equivalent to about ₹85 lakh, to Dubai.

It alleged that the amount she handled was outside the ₹2.78 crore she received from CMRL in the monthly payment arrangement, which is also under investigation. According to the agency, it has recovered evidence relating to the transfer of money using hawala channels.

The ED further claimed that digital devices seized from Veena contained a photograph of a SIM card issued in another person’s name for use with a Wi-Fi router.

The agency suspects that the SIM and router were obtained using another person’s identity to facilitate communication through internet-based calls.

The person who allegedly provided the SIM, along with others named in the handwritten records, was also covered in the searches, the agency said.

The latest findings came amid searches at nine locations linked to persons associated with Veena and her husband, former minister P.A. Muhammad Riyas.

The ED has indicated that Veena, who has already been questioned twice, could be summoned again.

‘Extremely serious’ allegations, says Congress

Meanwhile, KPCC president and Minister Sunny Joseph described the findings as “extremely serious” and demanded a response from Pinarayi Vijayan and the CPI(M), calling for a thorough investigation into the alleged transactions.

He said the findings concerning alleged illegal financial transactions had raised questions over the explanations offered by the CPI(M) so far.

After the ED raids on August 18, former minister Riyas accused the BJP of playing “dangerous politics” and said that he would face the probe both politically and legally. The CPI(M) meanwhile called the probe and the raids attempts by the Centre and the UDF-led state government to tarnish the image of the party.
