The high-profile trial in the murder of young doctor Vandana Das has been adjourned once more after the defence counsel, Advocate John S. Ralph, withdrew from the case on Thursday. The Kollam Additional District and Sessions Court, which had scheduled hearings for Wednesday and Thursday, has now postponed proceedings to July 18.
This marks another disruption in a trial already marred by delays. Earlier, prominent defence lawyers Aloor and Manu had passed away during the proceedings. At one point, Dr. K. Pratibha from the Health Department had lodged a complaint with the State Police Chief and the Director General of Prosecution, alleging the accused was deliberately stalling the trial by frequently changing legal representation.
John S. Ralph had stepped in following that complaint, allowing the trial to resume — until his sudden withdrawal led to this latest adjournment.
