A day after his viral Facebook post on equipment shortages at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) sparked controversy, Dr. Harris Chirakkal reiterated his claims, holding the Health Department accountable for prolonged inaction.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Dr. Harris, Head of the Urology Department, said he had alerted the Health Minister’s personal secretary about the crisis eight months ago, but no remedial steps were taken. “Surgeries happen only by begging for equipment. Others remain silent out of fear,” he said.

While the Director of Medical Education had refuted the allegations—stating that only one minor procedure was postponed—Dr. Harris countered that many patients remain on waiting lists until August or are compelled to purchase surgical items on their own.

“My remarks stem from the suffering I witness daily. If they want to isolate me for speaking the truth, so be it,” he said, adding that he would fully cooperate with any official inquiry.
