IB officer found dead in Kerala

Synopsis: Megha Madhu, a 25-year-old IB officer, was found dead on railway tracks in Thiruvananthapuram on 24 March. Her family suspects foul play, alleging a toxic relationship with a fellow IB officer. While police suggest suicide, her family believes external pressure may be involved. Investigations are ongoing, with forensic and cyber experts analyzing her damaged phone. The funeral is on 25 March.

The family of Megha Madhu, a 25-year-old Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer who was found dead on the railway tracks between Pettah and Chackai in Thiruvananthapuram on the morning of Monday, 24 March, has alleged foul play in her tragic demise.

They claim she may have been a victim of a toxic relationship with a fellow IB officer from Malappuram.

Megha, the only daughter of retired ITI Principal Madhusoodanan and Palakkad Collectorate employee Nisha, was a resident of Poozhikkad, Karakkakuzhi, Pathanamthitta.

A forensic science graduate, Megha had joined the IB a year ago and was working in the immigration section of the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.

She was reportedly heading to her rented apartment in Thiruvananthapuram after completing her night shift when the incident occurred around 9:30 am on Monday.

The loco pilot of the Jayanthi Janatha Express stated that she was seen walking along the track while talking on her phone before allegedly laying down across the rails as soon as the train approached.

Her body was identified using an ID card found near the tracks and was shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem.

While police suspect it to be a case of suicide due to relationship issues, Megha’s family believes external pressure or coercion may have led to her death.

Family suspects foul play

According to Megha’s father, she had told the family on Monday that she was heading to her room after her shift ended at 7 AM. She had also mentioned plans to buy something to eat in the morning. However, by 10 AM, he said, he got a call about the train accident.

“What baffles me is that there’s no railway track on her usual route. How did she end up there? If she deliberately took the longer route via the railway tracks, someone must have called her at that time. I heard on the news that she was on a phone call when it happened. Her mobile phone needs to be examined to uncover the truth,” Madhusudhanan insisted to the media.

Adding another layer to the mystery, he revealed that Megha had formed a close bond with a young man from Malappuram during her training in Punjab.

While her family initially opposed the relationship, they later came to terms with her choice. However, it is believed that the young man later withdrew from the marriage proposal.

Police and IB launch investigation

Raising concerns over the mysterious circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death, Madhusoodhan filed a complaint with the Intelligence Bureau and the police, seeking a thorough investigation.

The Pettah police as well as the IB have launched an investigation, with forensic experts and cyber police working to retrieve data from her severely damaged mobile phone to analyze her last conversations.

The grieving family has urged authorities to examine all angles, particularly the alleged troubled relationship, to uncover the truth behind Megha’s untimely death.

The funeral took place on Tuesday, 25 March at her residence in Pathanamthitta.
