In a shocking case of child rights violation, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has taken stringent action after a minor girl residing in an orphanage in Adoor gave birth on 2 June. The incident has revealed that the girl had become pregnant while still underage and living under institutional care.

Acting swiftly, the CWC has ordered the immediate relocation of all girls housed in the facility and recommended that the orphanage’s official recognition be revoked. The committee’s decision followed a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s pregnancy and childbirth.

A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against one of the orphanage administrators, who allegedly married the minor on October 23, 2024—well before she attained the legal age of consent.

The issue came to light when the girl delivered a baby at a private hospital, prompting a medical report that was later reviewed by the police. Investigators recorded the statement of the attending doctor before registering the case based on the CWC’s findings.

Officials have emphasized that such incidents represent a grave breach of trust and safety within child care institutions. Further investigation is ongoing, and more legal action is expected in the coming days
