Kochi is set to come under tighter surveillance as 300 CCTV cameras are being installed across the city in the next three months.

Of these, 150 will be used by the Kochi City police to monitor crime-prone areas, while the remaining 150 will help the Kochi Corporation curb illegal waste dumping.

The cameras will be connected to two separate centralized monitoring centers — one at Thevara for the police, and another at Yathra Auditorium near Marine Drive for the corporation.

Already, over 130 cameras have been installed for the waste monitoring system, with full launch expected soon.

The project, executed under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model by Southern Electronics and Security Systems, allows the company to install 600 advertisement boards across the city for seven years in exchange.
