The bodies of two teenagers who went missing on Sunday from Kozhikode beach after going into the sea to retrieve their ball, was found early on Monday, 5 June.

The body of Muhammad Adil (15) was retrieved post-midnight from a spot close to the breakwaters of the fishing harbour at Vellayil in the city limits.

Rescue workers traced the body of Adil Hassan (16) from a different spot close to the breakwaters at 4.45 am on Monday.

The incident occurred between 7.30 and 8 am on Sunday.

The local fish workers rescued another boy who was pulled in by the surging sea waters.

Playing football

Eight teenagers were playing football on the beach.

Due to the advent of the Southwest monsoon, the sea has been rough for the past several days.

Police said the teenagers had been playing at the beach when their ball went into the sea, and some went into the water to retrieve it.

However, two of them were caught in the undercurrent and pulled into the sea.

Though the police, fire and rescue personnel, as well as officials of the Fisheries Department were involved in the rescue operations, it was finally the local fishermen who retrieved the bodies.
