Pathanamthitta MP Anto Antony on Wednesday, 13 March, courted controversy with his remarks on the Pulwama terror attack.

According to the Congress leader, it was because of the Pulwama incident that the BJP stayed in power.

In a press conference, Anto said, “The BJP sacrificed the lives of 42 jawans in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections so that it could stay in power.”

He added, “Pakistan had no involvement in it. Giving scant regard to existing protocol, the jawans were transported by road on purpose. The former governor’s (Satya Pal Malik) revelation is before us.”

The BJP reaction

Kerala BJP president K Surendran said that Anto Antony would have to be arrested for sedition for these remarks.

“Anto has discredited our nation. He should be arrested on charges of sedition. He has disgraced the 44 soldiers and their families,” said Surendran.

It was in February 2019 that CRPF personnel were attacked in Pulwama in what was then the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

A total of 44 soldiers lost their lives when their convoy was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber at Lethapora on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.
